ROBBED

The big team is looking good from the start. Unfortunately the refs were from another planet. Don't they know what sportmanship means? A fair game? Being biased is bad. This is high school football folks. Let's set the right example for these boys.
The gang is here and ready for Monacan action.

The game started out with a touchdown, but the Cosby refs called it back just because they could. Monacan went on to score despite the uneven playing field.
Things were looking up, but not for long.
With Cosby down a touchdown, the refs decided it was time to throw the game. Several plays went by without the clock moving. Other times the clock was stopped for NO reason at all, no time outs remained and no penalties were called. If you play your heart out and lose fair and square, that's one thing, but to have the officials take the game away is another. Final score Cosby 15, Monacan 14. Monacan Chiefs can hold their heads up high. Boys you played a good game. Go Chiefs!

oldDOGS

So you can teach two old dogs new tricks! I won't say which two old dogs. Stack and Whack is a challenge but guess what folks,
we can do it. It took both us to position, pin, press and sew, but we did it. Katie Kate is helping as usual.
We laid our pinwheels out on a sheet to get an idea of how the pattern would look. Just imagine a purple background.
Half a square is done. Only took two hours but so what, we made all the pieces fit.
Yeah! An entire square is finished and beautiful. Yes, even two ding-a-lings from Carolina can figure this quilt puzzle out. Eat your heart out Zelda. See all of you crazy quilters on Thursday.

gayleandGRANDMA

Welcome to Gayle! Zelda's sister Gayle is here for a short visit. We haven't seen her for several years so brunch at the CB is a must.

Cindy welcomed the newest addition to the Weingarten family this week. Baby Jory entered the world on Monday evening. Needless to say Grandma Cindy had plenty of great pictures of the new princess. Cindy is an avid quilter so I brought along my first Bargello quilt for inspection.

Gayle and Zelda have been up late every night, shopping all day and in general are ready to drop. All this fun while David is away. You all know that saying, while the cat is away......
Gayle is was great to see you, come back soon!

ballgameMATT

Bad news folks. Due to the bad weather, today's game between Monacan and Cosby has been canceled.

bargelloSUCCESS

Bargello table runner is done. Yeah! Not bad for the first try.
My stitches are not perfect but not too far off. I started sewing from the left so the right end looks a bit better than the left.
At least my 1/4 inch stitch is better. Practice makes perfect. So practice I will. Now the question is lime or orange for the border. My sister can decide due to the fact that the runner is going to her house.
Katie Kate is always in on the action.

bargelloTRY1

Bargello mania has hit. Diana (quilting instructor) told us that learning to sew a 1/4 inch seam is a must. What better way to practice sewing straight lines than with a Bargello pattern. First you cut strips of fabric and sew them together.
Connect your strips into a barrel shape.
Press and flatten on cutting board. Cut barrel into strips.
One by one you rip open a seam and lay flat. Strip #1 was opened at fabric #1. Strip #2 was opened at fabric #2 and so on.
Giving you a lovely design. Add as many rows as you want and then you sew your strips together. One day this will turn into a table runner for my sister. Sooooo Diana, I made 3 barrels. Two are the same size and one is WAY off! I cut all the fabric the same day but sewed 2 strips one day and one strip the other. Don't have a clue what I didwrong. Live and learn!

mattGAME3

Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today. Yes folks, it's game time again. Monacan vs Midlo.

The fans are waiting for the big team to take the field. Wow, they are looking good.
That's Matt, number 30 taking a short break from the game. Monacan starts the game by scoring first,
and second and third. Oh yeah, they win 25 to zip, zero, nothing. This is great fun football fans. After a 0 and 100 season last year, we were the 0 by the way, this is a nice change.
The big team is looking good. 3 and 0 so far this season. Tune in on Thursday for Monacan vs Cosby. Go Monacan Chiefs!

satQUILTING

Sooooooo, it is Sat. and Lucy thought she had better get the book cover ( project #1) finished so she could move on to the Stack and Whack. Katie Kate is always around to help and supervise. Lucy finished up and now we move on to pinwheels of the Stack and Whack.

The two pictures above are the same triangle, we turned the red points in for the first pinwheel and the black points in for the second picture. Amazing ! Sometimes you choose pinwheel colors according to your background fabric,

or as you see with the second set we simply liked the fishes swimming in a circle. Pretty cool! We can't wait to start sewing.

morepinwheelssameFABRIC

Pinwheel bonanza! First you start with 8 layers of fabric, cut many 6 1/2inch squares. cut squares in half to make triangles and wow, look what you get. No two are the same.

This is just too much fun. Hope you all like the Christmas pattern because I have enough fabric to make everybody I know a quilt from this stuff.

guessyouwouldliketoseeaPINWHEEL

Nothing like having to backtrack! It is sort of having your dessert before your dinner. Aren't they pretty?

monacanGAME2

Wow! It's Thursday night and the football fans are ready for the big game. Monacan vs Clover Hill High. Remember folks, our boy is in high school now.
Crystal joins in the fun.
A little sideline discussion. Not about football or girls, dinner is the topic at hand.

The game starts off with Clover Hill scoring 6 points. That does not stop our super team.
16 visitor, 6 home. Yeah! Two wins in a row. Tune in on Monday for Monacan vs Midlo.

stackandwhackPART1

Over the river and through the woods to Jojo's we will go. Stack and whack quilting is off and running. The gang meets at Jojo's for fabric selection. Diana and Cindy have an eye for great patterns and colors.
Zelda has that serious look again! My theory is just pick something and see what happens.
Cindy and Diana explain the faster you pick your fabric, the sooner you eat!
Lucy has a nice Under The Sea theme going on for a kids quilt. Until a few days ago she was not too happy with the whole quilting idea. Then she spotted just the right fabric and POW!, the quilting bug hit her. There is no stopping her now.

locovickiandgrandmaCINDY

Yeah! The gangs all here. Lots to celebrate. Vicki had a birthday this week and Cindy is a grandma-to-be in just a few short weeks. Off to Don Pepe for lunch we go.
The Don Pepe cast of players sang Vicki a lovely birthday greeting.( Good thing they don't sing for their pay.)

Presents for Baby Weingarten. Grandma needs lots of supplies for her house.

Vicki got some nice smelling stuff.
Zelda displays her store-card-on-a-ring collection with the handy, dandy clip to hold them all together.
More presents!
As usual the Lunch Bunch get together is a big success. Laughter is the best medicine. Boy, don't we know it. Good friends, good food, who could go wrong with that. See you all on Thursday for Stack and Whack part 1.
