Don't know why we missed the kayaking pictures before, so here they are
Yes, we are on Topsail Island and we always go out for a site seeing kayak tour. Karl and Eli pictured.
We were scheduled to head out at 8 am but the swing bridge caught the Herrings Sporting Goods owners that morning so we were late heading out. You have to paddle out in high tide or there is not enough water to float your kayak. The sign on the business door reads "if we are late to open the store, it is because we are sitting at the bridge." Topsail Island has one of the last operating swing bridges in the country. The bridge opens for tall boats/yachts once an hour on the hour. If you happen to be coming to or leaving the island at that time, you just have to wait. Sometimes traffic backs up all the way to the one and only stop light on the island!
You must wear a life saving vest when kayaking. Why??? If you turn over you simply stand up. The water is not two feet deep in most places.
According to the new Coast Guard regulations you must carry a whistle on your person when you are in the water.

Richard would not leave his whistle alone. Nope just like a kid, he had to blow it every time he paddled 2 feet.
