birthdayWEEK

Well, well, well, where to start. Wednesday we kicked off Lucy's Birthday with lunch at El Patron. Tasty Mexican food, Lucy's favorite. Wednesday night we quilted at the library with the Happy Quilters of Chesterfield. Lucy made her first purse for her friend Debbie. Friday we gathered at the farm for more quilting and lunch. We never miss lunch. Peanut Butter pie, Aunt Beck's Pound Cake and Strawberry Cake from Vicki's secret kitchen called Walmart. Things were progressing nicely. Ginny sewing dolls for Duke Hospital, Debbie scrap booking, Lucy lending a hand to press or stuff purse handles and The Very Hungry Caterpillar moving along okay. Next thing we know Vicki, who fights with her machine on a regular basis, sews a flower head pin into her purse. We had no idea her machine would sew through a pin top. Needle nose pliers and Ginny to the rescue! Now folks, I would like to tell you the trouble stopped there, but nooooooo. Vicki decides to bird nest three yards of red thread on to six inches of purse backing. Looked like Mt. Saint Helens had been relocated in Chesterfield on the back of the Parrot Head Bag! Needless to say we all got a laugh out of this. Now you may remember reading about the plastic sewing incident a while back. Yes, Vicki strikes again. Poor Girl finally finished the bag around midnight, just kidding, it only took till five.
The fun never ends. Happy Birthday Lucy!

It's that time.....

Katie Kate the Hunter

Just when you think it's safe to enter the backyard, watch out! Over eighty acres of land and where do the snakes want to live? Katie's yard of course. The killer turtles are gone so I thought the rest of the summer would be peaceful, nope, no way, not going to happen.
Katie started the day out hunting, ran the yard for an hour trying to find the snake that left the scent. Well, we found him high and dry in the daisy plant. Click on the picture for a closer look at the green garter snake.
Never a dull minute with a terrier!

theveryhungryCATERPILLAR

Just when you think you are caught up on your projects another" emergency" comes up. The Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric is nice and bright for a baby quilt, add a matching tote and book and you are set!
Purple stripe for the back and the panel fussy cut and mixed with the other patterns will be nice. A panel with borders just seems rather boring. Jody will finish up with the VHC longarm pattern. More pictures to follow.....

noTOYS

My poor Katie Kate has no toys so the plastic cup will just have to do.
Relocated the water gardens outside the fence so the snakes won't have to travel so far this summer.
Edith sent me this summer blooming cactus from Asheville.
The dwarf peach tree is looking good this year. We did have a few blooms this spring. Peaches on the way...

Katie Kate

Katie Kate can't leave anything alone. If it moves she is on it. This time the moving snake, bug or lizard, ( we don't really know ) got her before she knew what hit her. A small mark on the end of her nose with just a drop of blood sent her into "I am allergic to everything mode". Good thing we travel to NC with meds. Did she learn her lesson? No, she was right out digging in the same spot the next morning.
Poor thing had a nose and jaw the size of Texas. Took two days for the swelling to go down!

newPAINT

My sister decided it was time to paint the house. No more dirty brown and bright white, now they blend with the forest. I drove by three times before I found the house tucked in the woods. Buddy dog is a regular neighborhood fixture, popping by to visit Sky every afternoon. Nice colors my sister!

BERRIES

Strawberry season is here so off to NC I go to make strawberry preserves. Strawberry preserves are not near as time consuming as blackberry jam. Three batches and a visit to the Carboro quilt store all before 3 p.m. As you can see we had fresh berries just picked that very morning. Tasty....
